Veena's Journey.....
Well- A learner’s state of mind is so very beautifully captured by Henry Ford when he said-
“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”
I opted for a path where I can stay young forever by choosing the journey of an educator where learning is never ending. I can go on and on in this learning journey of mine.

I STARTED A JOURNEY ON 22.06.2016

My journey as a learner has been quite insightful during this course. The journey has transformed me in entirety. The process of transformation set in at the very 1st stage of the course when we went for outstation visit to Sheetlakhet, Nanital.
Initial phase felt like an as icebreaking experience but it soon paved the path for learning about connecting, collaborating, pushing the envelope, stretching beyond my physical limits, basically breaking the shell which put limits on every thing.
The course has slowly widened my horizon. To put it simply, a single road has become 10-12 lanes expressway. Initial phase of the course focused on knowing self, bringing a can do approach, exposing to various learning philosophies. An attempt was made to kick start the thinking process. Lot of attention was given to develop soft skills.
The second and the middle part of course actually expanded my capacity. I now strongly believe that all human abilities can be developed. People say we are born with our mental ability and capacity but my course learning challenges this popular belief. I have seen that transformation in myself in which I have developed both on learning ability and capacity. A structured approach towards learning can definitely expand you on both the dimensions. The design of the course is such that it gradually increases the flux and keeps expanding ones bounds.
It was a phase in which both soft and hard skills got polished. The structured thinking process, the new learning methods, the observation skills, comprehensions skills and the presentation skills all got spruced up. One of the critical learning during this phase was the learning to observe. It was a great personality change from just being a watcher to an observer.
Finally the third part which can be termed as “learning by doing”. This part was crucial as it was on the job learning. I starting getting classroom exposure, basically go live stage. Whatever has been learned in the class room, by readings, by assignment, by field learning, by observations etc. all had to fall in place when I stepped into the shoes of a teacher. My understanding is that teaching is a process in which teacher and a student both learn. Learning is a journey which keeps continuing and never ends. This is how we keep absorbing whatever is happening around us and eventually preparing ourselves for the challenges of the future.

MY GROWTH AS A PERSON
Many aspects of my personality are undergoing change. As I was on a sabbatical and devoted myself completely to my family and kids, I had got into a defeatist approach to life. I had started telling stories to myself that now I won’t be able to go back to my work life and constructed a boundary of my own comfort zone. But with the gradual building of a can-do attitude again in me through the course, my focus has shifted to the solutions and possibilities that life is offering. In bringing back my lost “can do” attitude the trip to Sheetlakhet was a big contributor where I could re imagine myself and could synchronize my mind, body and soul. I carried a vibe of positive energy with me to do something purposeful.
The MPL sessions in the course were helpful in exploring more about my inner self. I came to know that how people respond to me is my mirror image only. It reflects my own behavior. The reflective exercises which were part of the course helped me a lot in delving deeper into my core being, enabling me to address issues and their root causes. I came face to face with many facets of myself, which I never knew existed. I started to understand what made me think the way I did, how and why I reacted in a certain way, and what was the basic thought processes through which I operated in my daily life. This reflection helped me to analyze myself more objectively and gave me the courage to take concrete steps to improve. This positively affected every aspect of my life, professional as well as personal.
More than anything else, I have learnt about myself ; my fears ,my strengths, my values ,what drives me, where am I operating from and what am I seeking .
Looking at different perspectives in one of the sessions made me think importance of looking at different perspectives of life from different angles. So as a teacher it is very important to be open to all the angles, to listen to children and not to set only one definition of good or bad behavior in our mind. Teacher’s role is very important, it is to shape young minds and not to label any child as labeling or tagging a child could have long lasting impact on his personality.
All these MPL sessions helped me in understanding that ‘to become a teacher one has to become a yogi’ who always stay in SHANTAM RAAS, the neutral mood . I have to take off all colored lenses and assumptions which I am wearing to provide an environment in the class where each child feels safe and secure to learn and explore his capabilities and strengths. An environment which protects and preserves the natural behavior “The Swabhav”of the child.
